Methodology

In the modern material design methods, scientists try to translate the materials properties to required microstructure and couple that to the atomistic configurations. Starting from atoms, one can build up a methodological path to find the most efficient production method for achieving desired properties or understanding the complicated systems. Computational simulations and fundamental theories are the main tools for this purpose. Calphad-based databases can be used as translators to connect the atomistic simulations results, called ab initio calculations to bulk properties of materials.

We use Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) method for material design and process development. In ICME, new materials are designed by linking models at multiple-length scales. Using computational techniques, performance is coupled to the properties, which are translated to microstructure and eventually to the process. Using this method, instead of traditional trial and error, cost and time can be saved in an efficient way to develop new materials based on application.

High-throughput simulations based on Calphad approach can also be used as input to develop meachine learning algorithms and AI models to predict properties of materials in more efficient and intelligent way.
